Engineering Chemistry Laboratory : 10. Conductometric Preciptation Titration Using BaCl2 – Na2SO4 : Viva – voice questions & answers
VIVA – VOICE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
1.
Why does conductance decrease in the precipitation titration?
In
the precipitation titration , the ions are converted in to insoluble
precipitate which will not contribute to the conductance.
2.
Give the reason for decrease in conductance when Na2SO4
is added to the solution containing BaCl2.
The
Ba2+ ions in the solution are replaced by free Na+ ions. Since the mobility of Na+ are
less than that of Ba2+ ions, the conductance of the solution
decreases.
3.
Give the reason for sudden increase in conductance after the end point.
After
the end point, when all the Ba2+ ions are replaced, further addition
of Na2SO4 increase the conductance .This is due to the
increase of Na+ and SO2-4 ions in the
solution.
4.
What is the equivalent weight of BaCl2?
122.14
5.
Write the precipitation reaction of this titration.
BaCl2
+ Na2SO4 → BaSO4 + 2NaCl
