Figure 1.14 shows two resistors R1 and R2 connected in parallel.

Figure 1.14 shows two resistors R1 and R2 connected in parallel. How does the total current I divide among the two resistors?


In order to obtain the distribution, we write

I = I1 + I2 and V=I1 R1 = I2 R2


So, current in a branch is equal to total current multiplied by other branch resistance and divided by sum of branch resistances.
