Evaluative Listening is a type of listening when people judge the speaker. We normally listen facts or information but don't evaluate. Sometimes evaluation is necessary. For Eg in job interviews when a person is an interviewer.

What is Evaluative Listening?

Evaluative Listening is a type of listening when people judge the speaker. We normally listen facts or information but don't evaluate. Sometimes evaluation is necessary. For Eg in job interviews when a person is an interviewer.

Evaluative listening is listening when the other person is trying to persuade or convince us. This is done to change our behavior or maybe to change the mindset or beliefs. Evaluative listening is also called as critical listening, judgmental listening or interpretive listening.

Evaluative Listening takes place:

When the shopkeeper or marketing executives sell a product

When the interviewee is speaking

When a student answers a question

When the judge listens to a case

When the police enquire
