concluded that writing skills should be enhanced by giving constant practice.

the answer scripts should be evaluated line by line with rectification of
errors.

practiced to enhance writing skills
✓ Error spotting should be taught separately to avoid
grammatical errors.
✓ Writing on technical topic should also be taught.
✓ Official letter writing should be given importance.
✓ Reading of many official correspondences will
enhance the language command of the students.
✓ Phrases used in official letters should be taught
separately.

Survey
of Academic and General Reading in English
Terms of Reference
On
9th January 2022, a survey was conducted among 16 overseas post-graduate
students at the University of England. The purpose of the survey was to
discover the reading habits in English of the students. isado.asoje eul boM lo
Procedure
The
survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire given to the stu-dents to
complete. The first part of the questionnaire dealt with the type of reading
and its frequency. The second section was concerned with newspapers: the type
of reading material read and those that were read first.
Findings
From
the table of data, the most significant items are as follows. In the first
section 81% of the students regularly read academic books while 44% regularly
read academic journals. Nothing else is read regularly or often by 40% or more
of the students.
The
following comments can be made about the reading of newspapers, magazines and
fiction. 75% sometimes read regional or local newspapers, 69% sometimes read
books of fiction, 62% sometimes read general magazines, and 56% sometimes read
national daily newspapers. On the other hand, 37% never read Sunday newspapers
and 31% never read fiction.
In
the second section, not surprisingly, 100% read news about their own country in
newspapers and 56% read this first. 94% read international news,
25%
read this first. 81% read about Britain and look at radio and TV information.
The only other item that is usually read by more than 50% of the students is
current affairs (read In astota aul boM by 56%).
Conclusion
If
any conclusions may be drawn from the data, they are, perhaps, as follows.
Overseas students presumably have little time for general reading: most of
their reading time is spent on books and journals on their own subject. Outside
their studies, apart from reading news about their own country, interna-tional
news, and news about Britain, they probably spend most time watching TV and listening
to the radio.

A
questionnaire was prepared to study the mask wearing behavior and beliefs to
stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. The customers of the Med Plus stores
at Kolathur completed the questionnaire. All the questionnaires were collected
and analysed.
Findings
The
vast majority-almost 90 percent-of respondents reported that they had worn a
food no mask or face covering the last time they went out in public to an
indoor space.
brisqe
Among those who answered that they had not worn a mask the last time they went
out in public, one-third indicated that they would wear masks if they were
provided for free when entering a store (Question 2).
These
responses suggest that simple interventions, such as providing masks for free
at store entrances, may prove sufficient to nudge some but not all individuals
to change behavior.
We
asked consumers about how likely they were to wear a mask in various
situations. For each setting, respondents chose from among the following
options: "Extremely unlikely," "Unlikely,"
"Likely," "Extremely Likely," or "No plans to
go."
Conclusion:
75% of the customers to the Med Plus Stores are health conscious and they are
afraid of the pandemic. 20% of the customers follow the guidelines of the
government but individually they do not have much fear of pandemic. 5% of the
customers believe that there is so much of hype about covid 19 and there is no
such virus spread and it is after all a flu.
Recommendations:
If
the masks are worn by all and vaccinations are made compulsory at the same time
across the world, the whole spread of virus everywhere can be curtailed to a
great extent.
Severe
steps should be followed by all countries of the world simultaneously to stop
infection caused by corona virus.

It
was instructed to conduct a study on the negative effects of internet
facilities provide by the institute.
Procedure:
The data for the report was collected by interviews with wardens, Mess Managers
and the Chief of Information Processing Centre. Also, the medical records of
the students were collected from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer.
Findings:
A preliminary look into the medical records show that about 75% of the students
owning a computer and regular users of the personal computers have complained
Dr. R. J. Sinha, about some physical problems or the other during the past one
year. CMO told me that these were symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a deadly
disease that affects many computer users all over the globe. He also explained
that these were due to excessive time spent on computers, improper sitting
posture and lack of physical exercise. The students work throughout night
without taking rest or without having proper sleep.
Academic
Performance: There is a decline in the academic
standards. Most of the students make improper use of the internet facility
provided by the college. The students watch movies or use internet for
chatting. They listen to music always. Many students got hooked to the virtual
world.
Food
Habits: The food habits of the students have become a cause
of concern. After the starting of computer centre, the attendance for meals has
gone down considerably. The students use junk food while browsing on the
internet.
Recommendations:
The
amount of time spent by the students on computers and internet should be fixed
at a certain time for certain hours viz for five hours.
Undesirable
websites should be blocked by the security network of the Institute.
Declaration
I
hope that this report will give you insight into the nature of the problem and
also its possible solutions. All the information given above is true to the
best of my knowledge.
