While harnessing of power has been the most important function of a mechanical engineer, equally, rather more important is the working knowledge of workshop technology in an industry, which is the manufacturing center of any engineering product.

A component, during its manufacture, needs a large number of operations to be performed separately. These operations collectively produce the desired shape and size of the job.

The geometric dimensions of the job need to be confirm to the specifications laid in the relevant production drawing of the component. The sum total of all these operations is called the Manufacturing Processes.
