A report is usually a piece of factual writing, based on evidence, containing organized information and analysis of a particular topic. A survey report is a formal piece of writing based on research.

SURVEY REPORT

Survey report comes under technical report. Normally the sub ordinates report the events to their manager or boss before the close of the office. The government sets up committees to report on various issues. Progress report from school is a common report which everyone knows. A report is usually a piece of factual writing, based on evidence, containing organized information and analysis of a particular topic. A survey report is a formal piece of writing based on research.

Its importance

It is a basic management tool used in decision making. The reports enable problem solving in organizations. It helps the authorities in planning new ventures and in evaluating men and material. It is one of the important means of information dissemination within and outside the organization. It serves as a measure of the growth, progress or success of an organization. It also serves as a repository. of information. It bridges the gap in thinking of various individuals. It develops writing skills.

• Characteristics of a report:

Precision: The report should be precise, clear and coherent.

Factual details: No assumptions should be included. Only factual details out of survey or research should be included.

Relevance: The details presented should be accurate and relevant to topic.

Reader-oriented: A good report is reader oriented.

Objectivity of recommendations: Recommendations are made at the end of the report. They should be impartial and objective. They should not have favoritism or prejudice.

Simple language: Reports should be written in simple language.

Unambiguous language: The language of the report should not be confusing or carry multiple meanings.

Grammatical accuracy: The language used in the report should be grammatically correct.
