Uses of cement concrete

Concrete is used in buildings for Foundations, Floors, Bed concrete below column footings, wall footings, etc., Columns, Beams, Lintels, Slabs and also in Pre-cast constructions.

USES OF CEMENT CONCRETE

1. Buildings

Concrete is used in buildings for Foundations, Floors, Bed concrete below column footings, wall footings, etc., Columns, Beams, Lintels, Slabs and also in Pre-cast constructions.

2. Roof Slab of Buildings

Impermeable concrete is used for constructing Reinforced Cement Concrete (R.C.C.) roof slabs in buildings.

3. Multi-Storeyed Constructions

Light Weight Concrete is used in multi-storeyed constructions.

4. Roads

Concrete is used in the construction of roads, pavements, runways, etc.

5. Dams and Bridges

Concrete is used in massive structures like water tanks, dams and bridges.

6. Pre-stressed Concrete

Pre-stressed Concrete is used in many under-water constructions including bridges.

7. Sleepers in Railways

Concrete is used in the construction of sleepers in railways.

8. Ornamental Works

Coloured Concrete is used for decorative and ornamental works in buildings, separating lines of road surfaces, etc.

9. Concrete is also used in the construction of Docks and Harbours, Bunkers, Silos, Water Retaining Structures, Concrete Trusses, Tennis Courts, Basket Ball Courts, etc.

10. Lime Concrete

Lime Concrete is used where cement is not cheaply and easily available in required quantity. It is used in foundation works, under-floors, over-roofs, etc.
