A covering letter serves the purpose of creating necessary background or support to any submission. Cover letter accompanies a resume either for internship or for job. Any document in the form of a proposal, a questionnaire or a report should be accompanied with a cover letter. The recipient may decide whether to go through the resume or proposal by reading the cover letter. The cover letter gives the first impression about the applicant. Hence it has to written error free and carefully.

The employer receives a lot of letters and the covering letter should capture his/ her attention. The cover letter must be planned and written well. It should be free of typographical or grammatical errors.

The covering letter should have the following key points:

• It should mention clearly the purpose of application

• Highlight positive attributes suitable to the post

• A courteous close

• Be specific and avoid general objectives.ne

• Know the pulse of the industry.

• Resume self-promotes an individual.

• Don't demand expected salary but mention the current salary

• Check the resume and cover letter for mistakes.

A résumé which is pronounced as /resumey/ also called a CV in English outside North America, is a document created and used by a person to present their educational background, skills, and accomplishments. Résumés can be used for a variety of reasons, sea lor but most often they are used to secure a new job.

A typical résumé contains a summary of relevant job experience and education. The résumé is usually one of the first items, along with a cover letter which a potential employer sees regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen/shortlist/select applicants, often followed by a face to face interview.

The curriculum vitae (CV) pronounced as /kuh-ruh-kyoo-luhm-vee-tai/ is used for employment purposes in the UK (and in other European countries) is more akin to the résumé a shorter, summary version of one's education and experience-than to the longer and more detailed CV that is expected in U.S. academic circles. In South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, biodata is often used in place of a résumé.
