Effects of Corona

The corona has following effects,

1. Due to corona there is corona loss which increases in rainy conditions. This effects the efficiency of transmission line. 

2. Audible noise in the human hearing range is produced during corona. During fair weather conditions this noise is negligible but in rainy conditions it can reach up to 60 dB close to the transmission line and could become very annoying.

3. The current produced by the pulsative corona produces electromangenetic fields which have undesirable effects on animals and human beings.

4. The corona produces radio and television interferences to nearby locations.

5. The corona effect attenuates the high voltage surges along the transmission line and reduces the effects produced by the surges.

6. The ozone gas discharge at the time of corona chemically reacts with conductor and may cause corrosion.
