MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WELFARE OF SOCIETY
A
mechanical engineering curriculum is diverse because it is central to so many
modern industries (e.g. aerospace, air conditioning, building, computers,
plastics, power systems, transportation). Individual mechanical engineers may
be employed in a wide range of engineering endeavors from initial research and
development of a product to manufacturing and marketing. Between these diverse
activities, mechanical engineers integrate engineering sciences, conceptual
product design, and manufacturing capabilities into a cost-effective, quality
product.
Without
mechanical engineering, we would not have things like engines, generators,
elevators or even air conditioning. While we might not even realize it, we most
likely use something that has been mechanically engineered every day.
Mechanical
engineering plays a critical role in manufactured technologies, from cars to
airplanes to refrigerators. It enables us to do many daily activities with
ease, as it brings helpful technologies to our modern society. It is one of the
most important subdivisions of engineering, because, without it, many of the
technologies we use every day would not be available.
Society
of today badly needs more power. There is a huge shortage of electricity
especially in underdeveloped countries. Prices of fuel are going up. Hence,
mechanical engineers are involved in the generation of power by adopting green
technologies.
Thus,
Mechanical engineering is the art of using problem-solving techniques and
applying them to the design and manufacturing of an object. Essentially, a
mechanical engineer uses creative design and analytical knowledge to turn a
concept into something real. In this context, mechanical engineers have been
significantly contributing to the welfare of society by developing new
technologies.
