Uses of bricks

1. First class bricks are used for superior works, second class bricks for ordinary works, third class bricks for unimportant works and fourth class bricks for temporary works.

USES OF BRICKS

1. First class bricks are used for superior works, second class bricks for ordinary works, third class bricks for unimportant works and fourth class bricks for temporary works.

2. Construction Purposes: Bricks are used for the construction of (i) Walls, partition walls, compound walls and columns, (ii) Different components of bridges such as piers, abutments, arches, etc. and (iii) Partitions, etc., in roads.

3. Hollow Bricks: They are used in compound walls due to their light weight.

4. Perforated Bricks: Bricks with perforations are used for heat insulation purpose.

5. Broken Bricks: Broken pieces of bricks are used as coarse aggregates in concrete which is used in foundations, floors, roads, etc.

6. Bricks when moulded in the shape of a gutter can be used as drains.

7. Pressed Bricks: Pressed bricks are used for decorative works in the facing of a wall and very high quality works. Sand-lime bricks are used for ornamental works.

8. Paving Bricks: Paving bricks made from rock clay containing high percentage of iron. These bricks resist abrasion better. Hence, these can be used for pavements, roads, etc.

9. Refractory Fire Bricks: These bricks are used for lining the interiors of furnaces, flues, chimneys, boilers, ovens and other fire places which are subjected to very high temperature.
