An A.C. circuit comprising of R, L and C is said to be in resonance when the applied voltage (source voltage) and the source current are in phase. Thus, at resonance the power factor of the circuit is unity and the circuit acts as purely resistive.

This method is applied usually for measuring the electrical power in 3-phase, 3-wire circuit. The load may be balanced or unbalanced. It may be connected either in delta or star.

The 3 phase generators supply energy to the loads which may be connected either in star or delta. When the load impedances in all the three phases are identical, the load is said to be balanced.

RYB is called positive phase sequence whereas RBY is called negative phase sequence. Unless specified clearly, we take positive phase sequence.
