Comparison between TTL, CMOS and ECL Families

Characteristics, Basic Circuit, Advantages, Disadvantages

Subject and UNIT: Digital Logic Circuits: Unit I: (b) Digital Logic Families

• Unlike TTL and CMOS families, ECL does not produce a large voltage swing between the LOW and HIGH levels. It has a small voltage swing, less than a volt, and it internally switches current between two possible paths, depending on the output state.

Three categories, Concept, Operation, Logic circuits, Equivalent, Characteristics, Advantages and Disadvantages

Subject and UNIT: Digital Logic Circuits: Unit I: (b) Digital Logic Families

Digital circuits with MOSFETs can be grouped into three categories :

Circuit diagram, Characteristics, Truth Table, Advantages and Disadvantages

Subject and UNIT: Digital Logic Circuits: Unit I: (b) Digital Logic Families

Transistor Transistor Logic, TTL, is named for its dependence on transistors alone to perform basic logic operations. The first version, which is now known as standard TTL, was developed in 1965 and is rarely used in today's systems.

Circuit, Operation, Truth table, Specifications, Connection

Subject and UNIT: Digital Logic Circuits: Unit I: (b) Digital Logic Families

• The Diode - Transistor Logic, DTL is somewhat more complex than RTL but because of its greater fan-out and improved noise margins it has replaced RTL.

Circuit, Operation, Truth table, Specifications, Connection

Subject and UNIT: Digital Logic Circuits: Unit I: (b) Digital Logic Families

• We begin our discussion of logic gates by considering the Resistor-Transistor-Logic (RTL) gate. Although RTL has become obsolete now, because of its simplicity and for historical reasons, it is proper to devote some attention to it and develop concepts useful in connection with all types of gates.

Classification, Performance

Subject and UNIT: Digital Logic Circuits: Unit I: (b) Digital Logic Families

• The propagation delay of a gate is basically the time interval between the application of an input pulse and the occurrence of the resulting output pulse.
