Active and Passive voice express the same idea but in two different ways. We normally use active voice because it is simple and direct. Passive voice says the information indirectly. Technical English uses passive voice more because the doer of the action is not as important as the action. Passive voice confuses a little. If the learner is clear, there is no confusion.

Passive voice is used in the following scenarios:

When action is important

Eg. The tea is poured on the floor. Let it be forgotten.

When the doer of the action is unknown:

Eg. The vehicle seat was damaged.stal

When the doer of the action is unimportant:

Eg. The experiment is completed.

Changing From Passive to Active Voice (and Vice Versa)

The verb and the tense should be given importance while changing the sentence from active to passive voice or from passive to active.

Annamalai has created a blog. (Active)

A blog has been created by Annamalai. (Passive)

Four steps to be done while changing the sentence from active to passive voice:

1. Switch the positions of the subject and object.

2. Add the word "by" before the new object.

3. Convert the verb based on the original tense used.

4. Note whether the object is singular or plural.
