RUBBER

Rubber tyres are widely used in automobiles. Rubber is used in building construction also. Rubber is classified as natural rubber and synthetic rubber.

Properties of Rubber

• It can be moulded into the desired form.

• Its properties can be modified by vulcanization and compounding.

• It can undergo large deformation without breaking. bila

• Natural rubber should be protected from sunlight, oils and organic liquids.

• Synthetic rubber has great resistance to petroleum products and acids.

• It is resistant to abrasion.

• It absorbs shocks and impacts.

• It is a bad conductor of heat.

Uses of Rubber in Construction

• To produce polymer concrete.

• To produce polymer mortar to improve its bonding and waterproofing qualities.

• To improve adhesive property, rubber is added in glues like Fevicol.

• To make PVC pipes.

• To make floorings that is stain resistant and durable.

• To make bearings for bridges with synthetic rubber.
